8-Day Morocco Tour from Marrakech: Sahara Desert & Draa Valley

This 8-day tour of Morocco from Marrakech will take you to the Sahara Desert, exploring the Draa Valley and the Erg Chegaga dunes.

Experience an unforgettable 8-day journey from Marrakech to discover the most spectacular landscapes of southern Morocco.

We will cross the High Atlas Mountains through breathtaking mountain passes before reaching the famous Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert and Morocco’s film capital, movie lovers can visit the Cinema Museum.

Our journey continues to the Dades Gorges, travelling through the beautiful Valley of Roses, famous for its landscapes, traditional villages and rose fields.

We will then follow the Draa Valley, considered one of the most beautiful routes in Morocco, until reaching the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Along the way, we will discover ancient kasbahs, traditional villages and the unique atmosphere of southern Morocco.

You will experience overnight stays in desert camps at Erg Lihoudi and Erg Chegaga, two incredible locations in the heart of the Sahara, where you can enjoy the dunes, the stars and the peacefulness of the desert.

We will also explore Marrakech with a guided visit and enjoy a traditional Moroccan hammam before the end of the journey.

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Arrival at Marrakech airport and transfer to your accommodation.

Depending on your arrival time, you will have free time to enjoy your first contact with the city, its streets, markets and the atmosphere of the Red City.

Overnight in a riad in Marrakech.

Day 2: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ouarzazate – Valley of Roses – Dades

We will leave Marrakech early in the morning, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass (2,260 m) through the High Atlas Mountains.

Along the way, we will have the opportunity to visit an argan oil cooperative, a traditional product from this region.

We will continue to Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert and Morocco’s film capital. If time allows, we can visit the Cinema Museum.

Our journey continues through the Valley of Roses until we reach the Dades Gorges.

Day 3: Dades Gorges – Draa Valley – Tagounite

After breakfast, we will enter the Draa Valley, one of the most spectacular routes in southern Morocco.

We will travel through endless palm groves, traditional villages and ancient kasbahs until reaching the Tagounite area.

On the way, we will visit the green pottery cooperative of Tamgroute, famous for its traditional craftsmanship.

Day 4: Tagounite – M’Hamid – Erg Lihoudi – Desert Gateway - Sacred Oasis - Erg Chegaga

In the morning, we will walk through some of the kasbahs surrounding Tagounite village.

We will continue the route to M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last town before the great Sahara desert, where the asphalt ends and the adventure begins towards the heart of the Sahara, traveling through different desert landscapes: hammada (stone desert), oases and large expanses of sand. We will arrive at Erg Chegaga, the largest dunes in southern Morocco, with dunes that can reach 300 meters in height and extend for kilometers.

We will enjoy a traditional Moroccan tea ceremony and a dromedary excursion to watch the sunset.

Day 5: Erg Chegaga – Lake Iriki – Foum Zguid – Ait Ben Haddou

We start the day enjoying sunrise in the heart of the Sahara.

After breakfast, we continue our journey along the old Paris-Dakar Rally route, crossing unique desert landscapes.

We pass by Lake Iriki, a place surrounded by dunes that can sometimes fill with water during certain times of the year.

We will continue to Foum Zguid, where we will leave the desert tracks behind and return to the Atlas Mountains to the Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Day 6: Aït Ben Haddou - Marrakech

We cross the Atlas Mountains again via the Tizi'n Tiska pass. We will arrive in Marrakech at midday.

Day 7: Guided Marrakech Visit & Traditional Hammam

In the morning, we will enjoy a guided visit of Marrakech, discovering its most iconic places, the medina, the markets and its historic corners.

In the afternoon, we will experience a traditional Moroccan hammam, a unique moment of relaxation.

Overnight in a riad in Marrakech.

Day 8: Airport Transfer

At the agreed time, transfer to Marrakech airport.
