Excursion to the ERG CHEGAGA desert. 3 days

The 3-day excursion is a great option for enjoying the desert if you only have a few days in Morocco. You can combine the night in the desert with activities such as quad biking, henna tattoos, a visit to the souk (traditional market), a stay with local families, a walk through the kasbahs, or simply relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of the place.

Erg Chegaga is a desert area located about 450 km from Marrakech. Being in Erg Chegaga feels like being in a sea of dunes. You’ll witness around 40 km of sand dunes and peaks reaching up to 300 meters in height. It’s a landscape that will stay in the traveler’s memory forever.

Day 1 Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Tagounite

Pick-up at 8am at your accommodation. 

We cross the High Atlas to its highest point, Mount Tizi'n Tiscka (2,260 m.). 

Arrival at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We take a panoramic tour of the Kasbah. 

We continue through the Draa Valley, considered one of the most beautiful routes in the country. We will cross Berber villages, Agdz, Zagora, Tamgroute, where we will visit the green ceramics cooperative. We will continue to the village of Tagounite, where we will spend the night in a traditional house.

Day 2 Tagounite - M'hamid - Erg Chegaga

In the morning, we'll take a stroll through some of the kasbahs surrounding the village of Tagounite.

We'll continue along the N9, which will take us to the village where the paved road ends, M'hamid el Ghizlane. There, the off-road route begins, leading us into the desert. For about three hours, we'll travel through diverse landscapes: a hammada (rocky desert), an oasis, and more, until we reach the Chegaga dunes. A sea of ​​sand, with dunes reaching 300 meters in height and stretching for approximately 40 kilometers.

A tea ceremony will be held as a welcome.

We'll enjoy a camel ride to watch the sunset.

Overnight in a traditional Berber tent at the camp.

Day 3 Erg Chegaga - Iriki Lake - Foum Zguid - Atlas - Marrakech

Watch the sunrise.

We'll continue along the old Paris-Dakar Rally route, which will take us through more desert landscapes. We'll pass by Lake Iriki, surrounded by dunes and which holds water at certain times of the year.

We'll follow the track to Foum Zguid, where we'll rejoin the paved road.

We'll ascend the Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech.

Transfer to your accommodation or the airport (for departures after 9 pm).
