Years ago there was a lake in the middle of the desert, between M'hamid and Foum Zguid. There the Draa River died in its surface channel, in underground waters it ends up flowing into the Atlantic. Today Lake Iriki retains a layer of salt on its hard floor.
On the way back from the desert trip to Erg Chegaga, we pass by the dry lake. It seems incredible that it was filled with water years ago! Today we find an area where many fossils appear among the stones. From the same lake a great immensity in the landscape is contemplated. In front of us we see the mountain of Djbel Bani to the north, the rest is all like a horizontal line that describes the immensity of the place, the feeling of being alone in the middle of nowhere.
Desert travel in the Erg Chegaga area can be done all year round. If it is important to take the necessary precautions if you travel in summer (June - August); go out in hours of less sun, put on sunscreen, constantly refresh yourself...
Morocco has many impressive places to visit, the southern part of the country has a landscape value that is difficult to define in words; the feeling of freedom, the cry of disconnection from routine and connection with oneself, the pleasure of knowing a place so close and so different at the same time, the feeling of peace that is transmitted in the air, listening to one's own voice... each person lives their journey in their own way and we love accompanying people on this path.
