Essaouira in summer

Essaouira in summer: the perfect way to enjoy Morocco's Atlantic coast

If there is one place we especially enjoy spending summer in Morocco, it is Essaouira.

When the heat starts to build up inland, we head towards the Atlantic coast. And you can really feel the difference. In Essaouira, the wind and sea breeze make the temperatures much more pleasant, especially compared with Marrakech or southern Morocco.

That is why Essaouira in summer is a great option if you want to travel to Morocco and enjoy the country without having to deal with quite so much heat.

The best thing about Essaouira is that you don't need to make big plans. You can start the day walking around the medina, pop into a few craft shops, head towards the old walls and finish at the port watching the fishing boats come in. And, of course, enjoy some fresh fish.

The port of Essaouira is one of our favourite places. There is always something happening: fishermen, small boats and that atmosphere that shows how closely the city is still connected to the sea. Afterwards, you can head to the beach or simply sit down for a Moroccan tea and watch the afternoon go by.

The wind is one of the main characters of Essaouira.

If you are looking for a completely calm beach to lie in the sun, nearby you will find places such as Sidi Kaouki, with long beaches and a more relaxed atmosphere. But if you enjoy surfing, kitesurfing or windsurfing, then Essaouira is the place for you.

One thing to remember: if you are coming in August, pack a light jacket. You may need it in the afternoon or evening.

At Sahara Para Todos, we can help you organise your trip to Morocco, combining Essaouira with Marrakech, southern Morocco, the desert or other places depending on how many days you have and what you would like to discover.

This summer, swap the heat inland for the Atlantic breeze. See you in Essaouira.
